About the Artists…

The Oregon Arts Orchestra is comprised of the finest community professional musicians from the states
of Oregon, Washington, Utah and Montana on the Northwestern Coast of the United States. Members have been specially selected by Conductor Cindy H. Petty as musical ambassadors to travel worldwide sharing their music and to represent many orchestras of the region including the Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, Newport Symphony, The Portland Jewish Community Orchestra, Marylhurst Symphony, Willamette Falls Symphony, Oregon Sinfonietta, Oregon Coast Chamber Players, the Oregon Mozart Players and the Salem Chamber Orchestra, The Northwest Civic Orchestra of Montana, Chandler Symphony Orchestra and the Utah Wind Ensemble. The members are a diversified group of professionals who by day serve as physicians, teachers, architects, administrators, computer technicians and software engineers, accountants, attorneys, postal workers, business executives, stock brokers, bankers, mothers, fathers and students. In the afternoon and evenings they come together to share the passion of their hearts – music. This is a unique group of Americans brought together through the musical heritage of their ancestors with a desire to play fine works for themselves and for their communities. This is their second European concert tour having previously performed to sold out crowds in Dvorak Hall (Czech Republic), Haydnshall, and in various churches throughout Salzburg and Vienna. It is with honor that we perform as an orchestra throughout the United States and abroad representing the strength that music brings to all generations of time as we sit side by side as friends, youth, siblings, parents and grandparents of our communities performing great music and blending the generations of time, ethnicity, history and country honoring and keeping our heritage and connections alive through music.

Cindy H. Petty is a conductor and teacher recognized for her “outstanding precision, musical vision, warm motivation, engaging stage presence and a unique ability to connect with musicians and audiences of all ages”. As a professional conductor, violinist and dedicated music educator in the public and private school systems for over 20 years, Ms. Petty honed her skills through study with Kurt Masur, Riccardo Chailly and Maren Alsop after completing degrees in both education and conducting from the University of Utah. As a Conductor, Cindy currently serves as the Music Director and Conductor of the Oregon Arts Orchestra (OR), Principal Guest Conductor and Concertmaster for the Sapporo Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan), Conductor Emeritus of the Jewish Community Orchestra (OR), and as a Conductor on the Chandler Symphony Orchestra Chamber Series (AZ). As a violinist, she currently performs with the Newport Symphony (OR) and Music Nova (AZ). In addition, Cindy produces concerts and festivals worldwide for Music Celebrations International (AZ) including festivals in Rome, Salzburg, Paris and Washington D.C. Ms. Petty is sought after as a clinician and adjudicator for State and National Music Festivals, All-State Orchestras and Youth Honor Orchestras nationwide. In 2007, she was knighted by the Royal Rosarians of Oregon, under the banner of the rose “Artistry” for her extensive contributions to the community through music.

Previously Ms. Petty has served as Music Director and Conductor of the Portland Youth Philharmonic Conservatory Orchestra; Oregon Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra; Oregon Pro Arte Youth Chamber Orchestra; Pro Arte Conservatory Strings; Granite, Jordan and Lincoln Youth Symphonies; the Portland Ensign Choir and Orchestra and the Portland Adventist String Orchestra. Ms. Petty firmly believes that music is essential to and complements every other area of our lives. It is cognitive, physical, expressive, goal oriented, aesthetic, exciting and rewarding. Music must be accessible to everyone to truly touch lives. Music is an aural sport, a lifelong skill which ensures the human element of life! It is work and recreation at the same time. It requires a high level of commitment and dedication to excellence. As stated by Ms. Petty, “Music is not just my profession… is my passion!”
