About the Artists…

The Dearborn High School Concert and Symphony Bands perform 3 major concerts per year. In addition to these performances, the bands are also asked to perform at several senior complexes including the Henry Ford Village, and Oakwood Commons. The bands have earned consistent first division ratings at the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Band Festival held each March.

Dearborn High also offers other musical opportunities including solo and ensemble festival, pit orchestra, and AP Music Theory.

The Dearborn Michigan community is known for its dedication and support of the arts. Dearborn High School is proud of its rich heritage and has had a strong arts program since its inception in 1893. Mayor John O’Reilly and current principal Chuck Baughman are commended for their strong support of the Dearborn High School Music Program.

Jeffery Oshnock continues to teach in the Dearborn School District, where he has been teaching since 1986. He currently directs the orchestras and bands at Dearborn High School, where he has been since 1992. Mr. Oshnock earned his Bachelors of Music from Michigan State University where he studied with Mark Johnson. He also holds a Master of Education from the University of Michigan. Mr. Oshnock is a member and officer of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association.

About the Artists…

The Dearborn High School Jazz Band performs four major concerts per year and also performs extensively in the Dearborn, Mich. community.  The group performs before Motor City Brass Band Concerts, for the Henry Ford Village Community, and for various city of Dearborn functions.

The Jazz Band is made up of 17 dedicated and select members. They rehearse before school daily at 6:20 am. Through the jazz program, students develop an understanding of music history, theory, and improvisation skills needed to perform in a jazz ensemble. Jazz Band also provides students the opportunity to be creative and explore, as well as teaching the discipline and teamwork skills necessary to succeed in life.

This group has performed for former President Clinton and at many interesting venues including Liberty Island, the Guinness Storehouse, and the St. Patrick Day parade in Dublin, Ireland.
