About the artists…

Oxford High School Choirs

The 200 voices of the Oxford High School Choir program have developed a reputation for performance excellence on a state and national level. Vocalists from the program have performed at Carnegie Hall by special invitation. In the past five years Oxford High School Choirs have received two Grand Champion trophies for national competitions and thirteen first place superior rating trophies in various divisions of national competitions. Additional recognitions and honors include being selected by ParadeMagazine.com as a top-ten choir video performance in 2011, being selected by Walton Publishing to record a newly published work for online marketing and granted rights for the Michigan premier of Ola Gjeilo’s unpublished Sunrise Mass.

The touring vocal groups Oxford Voices and the Oxford Women’s Chorale consist of advanced vocalists from each of the five choral ensembles at Oxford High School. These select vocalists represent the depth and passion that is inherent in all of the choral performances at Oxford High School.

Christopher Card, Director

Christopher Card has been developing high school choir programs for the past 20 years. Christopher holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Western Michigan University and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Choral Education from VanderCook College of Music in Chicago, IL.

Christopher currently is the Director of Choirs for Oxford High School in Oxford, MI. He has previously served as the Director of the Midwest Youth Chorale with the North American Choral Company and Director of Choirs at Cadillac High School, Byron Center High School and Webberville High School, all in Michigan.

Performing groups under Christopher’s direction have pursued regional, state, national and international standards of artistic excellence. In 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2011 Christopher’s choirs have performed at Carnegie Hall by special invitation. In the past ten years his choirs have received a total of 48 superior ratings at District, State and National Festivals and Competitions. During Christopher’s tenure as a choral director at Oxford High School his groups have brought home 13 first place trophies from national competitions.

Christopher’s teaching approach is to infuse a high level of energy in an interactive classroom environment, cultivating highly artistic and technical choral performances from actively engaged singers. This approach has stimulated his choral programs to dramatically grow in enrollment and quality. In his four years as Director of Choirs at Oxford High School the choral program has grown from three choirs of 64 students to seven choirs of over 200 students. Similar results have been obtained from his previous positions.
