About the Artists…

The Morris Knolls High School Choral Program, from Rockaway, New Jersey, has over 250 members in six choirs.  The Concert Choir and Treble Choir are the curricular choirs that meet during the school day.  The Treble Choir consists of all freshmen women, while all other students are in the Concert Choir.  The Men’s Choir, Women’s Choir, Chorale and Madrigal Singers are after school, auditioned groups that meet once a week.  All choirs have travelled to Orlando, Williamsburg and Boston in the past four years earning superior ratings at every festival.  The choirs perform regularly in the community for local events and area festivals.

Michael Semancik is the Director of Choral Activities at Morris Knolls High School He earned a B.S. in music education from Slippery Rock University and an M.M. in choral conducting studying with Dr. Paul D. Head at the University of Delaware. The Morris Knolls Chorale, one of six choirs featuring over 250 choral students, has received extensive awards over the past few years under Mr. Semancik.  The choir has recently performed at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall in New York City. In addition, they have performed overseas during Palm Sunday mass at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Austria and at the Czech Museum of Music in Prague, Czech Republic.  The Chorale has been selected to sing at the 2013 National Association of Music Education’s Eastern Division Convention in Hartford, Connecticut.  Michael has been the guest conductor of the Sussex County Honors Choir and has been an adjudicator in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
