About the artists…

Plainfield High School – Central Campus (PHS-CC) is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago in Plainfield, Illinois. It is one of four high schools in one of the top five largest school districts in the state of Illinois.

The choral program is composed of three curricular groups: Concert Choir, Treble Choir and Mixed Choir; and five extra-curricular ensembles which perform at numerous school and community events throughout the year.

Plainfield’s choral program recently performed in New York City’s Carnegie Hall Centennial Celebration Concert with the New York City Chamber Orchestra and has yearly performances in conjunction with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. They have also been featured performers at Disney World. In addition, the group traveled to St. Louis, Missouri for the Midwest Regional Choral Festival and won first place in its division, and also placed as ‘Best Overall’ choir.

The PHS-CC choral groups enjoy performing for numerous community organizations such as the local Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and area festivals. This 87-member program performs not only at school events, but also is requested at professional sporting events throughout the Chicagoland area. Many of Plainfield’s choral students have placed at district and state levels of the Illinois Music Educators Association annual choral festivals, as well as solo and ensemble festivals each year. The PHS-CC choral program is designed for independent musicians, leaders and educators who go forward to the collegiate level and the performing arts arena.

Alanna Frederiksen, director

A native of South Mississippi, Alanna Frederiksen came to Plainfield Central High School after completing her Master of Music in choral conducting in the spring of 2007. She also holds the degree of Bachelor of Music Education with a choral/vocal emphasis. She teaches Mixed Choir, Treble Choir, Concert Choir, and Music Survey during the curricular school day. Extra-curricular choirs over the past six years include Madrigals, Vocal Jazz, Women’s Ensemble and Men’s Ensemble. In addition, she directs the school’s annual Madrigal Dinners and the spring musical.

Before coming to Plainfield, Mrs. Frederiksen held a full graduate assistantship in choral music while pursuing her Master of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to this, Mrs. Frederiksen taught junior high choirs for four years and was instrumental in creating a sight-reading requirement for Mississippi state junior high choral festivals. During this time she held an additional position as music director at a local church. She studied conducting and educational pedagogy under Gregory Fuller, Timothy Koch, and Chris White.
