About the Artists…..
Since its founding in 1923, John Burroughs School, located in St. Louis, Missouri, has been a highly-respected co-ed college preparatory school.   The fine arts play an integral part in the school’s overall philosophy and curriculum.  Burroughs students learn to pursue excellence in all their endeavors, whether it be academic, artistic, or athletic.

The John Burroughs School Orchestra, under the direction of Robert Carter, is an auditioned ensemble that provides audiences with compelling performances from repertoire ranging from traditional symphonic literature to contemporary pieces and music from the stage and screen.  The distinctive sound of the orchestra is due in part to the meticulous attention to colorful tone production, elegant phrasing, and dynamic contrast.  Students in the orchestra often play in other ensembles as well, including the venerable St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Under the direction of Denise Stookesberry, the choirs at John Burroughs have consistently received excellent and superior ratings at the Missouri All-State festival each year.   They travel each year and have performed in Chicago, Il and recently sang at Carnegie Hall in New York.  The choir is in demand to sing at many functions and events on and off campus.    John Burroughs Chamber Choir is comprised of select students from three of the school’s high school choirs that are offered.
